My Work
I was working on Linux block I/O scheduling. We are interested in how the Linux I/O schedulers perform in the face of modern disk systems:
- RAID, both hardware and software;
- TCQ/NCQ-capable disk controllers;
- Logical volumes (LVM).
My work is primarily focused on "smart" hardware.
The aim of the work is to:
- Document the behaviour and tunable parameters of the existing Linux I/O schedulers (Noop, Deadline, Anticipatory and CFQ);
- Evaluate, document and improve their performance in a variety of hardware and software configurations.
Results
Some micro-benchmark results are available at IoScheduling/MicroResults.
